I was not expecting the beachfront yoga class setting. You have a clear view of the dune, the beach, and the Indian ocean. A 360 view of the sea as you settle in on your yoga mat. All you hear is the sound of the waves. In the distance, a few morning walkers are strolling in the shallow saltwater.
You can taste the fresh salty sea air as you take a deep breath. Sitting in a meditative state before your Yoga practice is calming. You hear the light wind and feel the wind on your face. The sea sound relaxes you while you close your eyes. Another deep inhale through your nose, and a slow exhale through your lips. You open your eyes, looking out into the Indian ocean horizon.
Your practice is about to start.
Yoga asanas are part of your daily and weekly yoga practice. An asana is a body posture and a term for sitting in a meditation pose. Today Asana poses in Hatha Yoga, and modern Yoga includes reclining, standing, inverted, twisting, and balancing poses.
While practising Yoga, you will focus on flexibility, balance and strength in every class.
Flexibility
How Does Yoga Improve your Flexibility?
Practising yoga will improve your flexibility. There are many benefits to being flexible as your daily movement improves. When you practice Yoga, you are encouraged to hold yoga stretches. When you hold a stretch, you allow your muscles to go deeper into a stretch. It can be challenging and will take time to improve.
Yin yoga often holds poses for longer so that your deeper tissues, joints, and tendons feel the stretches positive effect. Holding the yin yoga poses requires mental focus and continued breathing. Your concentration and focus will help improve your flexibility.
Vinyasa flow yoga is also excellent for flexibility. The poses are dynamic with a natural flow. Your muscles warm up, allowing for deeper stretching. The longer you hold your Yoga pose, the deeper you will stretch.
What Are The Benefits Of Improved Flexibility?
There are many positive benefits:
- You can reduce injuries as your body movements are more flexible.
- Yoga stretches enhance flexibility that can help improve your posture.
- Yoga training motivates you to create positive mental affirmations.
- You will improve your strength.
- Your balance will improve.
- Stretching can help reduce your back pain issues.
- Your muscles will start working more efficiently.
Be patient with your body. It will take time for the stretches to enhance your overall flexibility. Practising more flexibility exercises every week will improve your training. It’s a good habit to do flexibility activities three times per week.
Balance
Yoga poses focus on your balance. Improving your balance is positive for your mental and physical health. If you improve your balance, you will stimulate your brain functions that will enhance your confidence. These benefits will have a positive effect on your health and daily activities.
How does Yoga improve your balance?
Yoga balance poses engages your core muscles. Strong core muscles affect your entire body positively. Controlled breathing and focused concentration help you activate your core and improve your practice. If you balance well, then you are focused. It would be best if you tried not to get distracted while you practice Yoga. If your mind is present, you will enjoy all the positivity of your Yoga session.
Strength
What are strength exercises?
A strength exercise makes your muscles work hard. While doing these exercises, you will, over time, increase your muscles strength, size, power and endurance. Strength exercises use your body weight and resistance training. Stretch bands are great to use in your muscle-strengthening practice.
How will you know that you are improving?
If you get tired and need rest, you are doing your exercises right. Muscle-strengthening activities will work your muscles to the point where you need rest before your next set or pose. Any exercise routine takes time. Yoga training requires patience. You will see results by focusing on your daily and weekly routines.
Yoga is one of the healthiest exercises to build strength naturally. All Yoga exercises work together to improve your posture, prevent injuries, assist muscle recovery and tighten your muscles. Yoga helps you align your body. Lengthen and strengthen your muscles.
“Your hand opens and closes and opens and closes. If it were always a fist or always stretched open, you would be paralyzed. Your deepest presence is in every small contracting and expanding, the two as beautifully balanced and coordinated as birdwings.” Rumi
