At the North Star, we love weddings. And with good reason, we’ve hosted some memorable weddings at our gorgeous ocean front wedding venue. So it will come as no surprise that we are already super excited to see what 2022 delivers in the way of new wedding trends. We scoured the wilds of the interwebs to gather some of the main trends that will influence wedding decor and clothes in 2022.
If you are getting hitched this year and need some wedding trend inspiration to get you going – let this be your starting point. A look through these trends will hopefully deliver that spark of inspiration you need to create a unique and memorable wedding.

Bold Colour
One of the main trends we see pop-up almost everywhere is the use of bold colour. Vogue.com calls it Technicolour and links it to the rise of so-called dopamine dressing during the pandemic.
Weddingforward.com predicts that bright colours in the pink, blue, green, and orange families will make a big and bold statement at spring and summer weddings.
Applying this bright palette in unique ways is another feature of this trend – onefabday.com predicts the use of flashes of bright colour with a monochrome scheme or applying it in an eccentric colour-clashing style.
If you prefer to stick to the tried and true neutrals, consider this suggestion by marthastewart.com – add an element of surprise with a bright pop of colour that accentuates the neutral tones of your pallet.

Hanging Florals
Large floral installations suspended above the tables are becoming increasingly popular according to vogue.com. Perfect for creating a magical fairytale forest feeling as weddingforward.com suggests. This trend has the added bonus of opening up some space on your tables for gorgeous table settings. And of course, allowing your guests to see each other from across the table.
Another floral trend we’ve noticed is grouped collections of blooms in similar hues. Marthastewart.com calls this “mono floral” and predicts that monochromatic tones of florals grouped in various vessels will be a leading style choice.

Eco Friendly Weddings
As we all become more aware of how our actions impact the environment it is no surprise to see this filtering through to the wedding industry. If this is something that is important to you there are lots of ways you can make your wedding sustainable while still creating a magical event. Weddingforward.com suggest things like decor that can be reused or re-purposed after the event. Try to eliminate things that are single-use and will only be thrown away after the wedding.
Using air-purify potted plants as floral arrangements are becoming more popular as is the use of dried flowers and foliage according to hitched.com A beautiful arrangement of potted plants can also double as wedding favours… giving your guests a gift that will bring them joy for some time to come – and hopefully won’t end up in tomorrow trash.

Bridal Separates
A fun trend we noticed in a few places is the increase of bridal separates instead of a dress. We love the versatility of this trend – allowing the bride to mix and match pieces – think of a beautiful skirt for the ceremony and fun pants for a quirky reception look. As hitched.com mentions their re-wearability is also a major plus for sustainable brides.
This trend might be connected to the rise in elopements, micro-weddings and casual-chic civil ceremonies – as brides start looking for an easy wearing modern option to replace the traditional wedding gown. Mix and match separates are perfect to create a non-traditional yet still elegant wedding look.

Regency Romance
Our last trend that pops up everywhere takes inspiration from the hit Netflix series Bridgerton. Set in the elegant and romantic Regency time period the costumes and interiors of this series are inspiring brides to add a bit of vintage charm to their weddings.
Hitched.com mentions the soft powdery Regency Blue as a colour to consider while onefabday.com see the trend in handwritten stationery details and floral arrangements of English country roses and trailing wisteria. They also mention Regency-inspired wedding dresses in the form of puff sleeves, empire waistlines, ruffles, gloves, ornate jewellery and pretty bridal flats.
And there you have it – 5 trends we think might influence the look and feel of weddings in 2022. And while trends are a fun and often insightful starting off point – remember that your wedding day should reflect you and your partner’s unique style and flair. Never allow trends to let you feel obligated to use a certain style or look – combine them sparingly with liberal helpings of your personal style for a truly unique and memorable wedding.
